‘Why fight this guy no one has heard of’?… Hamzah Sheeraz fumes at Chris Eubank Jr

Hamzah Sheeraz is furious that Chris Eubank Jr failed to sign on the dotted line to fight him and instead chose a lesser-known opponent.

While it isn’t the bout he initially wanted, the 25-year-old will still get his chance to shine on Saturday evening in front of a packed house at Wembley Stadium, London, UK.

Hamzah Sheeraz fires shots at Chris Eubank Jr

From the first moment he ever walked into a boxing gym, Hamzah Sheeraz was always destined for success.

Like Chris Eubank Jr, the Englishman came from a sporting family, with his uncle and grandfather both having stepped through the ropes.

From the age of eight, Sheeraz has dazzled inside the squared circle, beating a plethora of big names such as Liam Williams and Ammo Williams.

With thunderous power and an innate fighting IQ honed at the famous Wildcard Gym in Los Angeles, California, USA, made famous by Manny Pacquiao, the up-and-comer has cemented his position as one of the best prospects in the sport.

Exciting times: Five potential fights for Terence Crawford

Therefore, when the possibility of a fight against Eubank Jr on the Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois undercard was confirmed, boxing fans across the world were united in the hope that it would get made.

Alas, it failed to come to fruition. Despite rumors of the former IBO champion getting a match-up with Canelo Alvarez instead, he eventually decided to take on Kamil Szeremeta.

When asked whether that has left him frustrated, Sheeraz told Bloody Knockout: “It is when you hear interviews of him saying, ‘It doesn’t make sense to fight Hamzah Sheeraz’. If it doesn’t make sense to fight Hamzah Sheeraz, then why fight this guy, who no one’s heard of?

“At the same time, I don’t really need him. I can carry on in my career and still reach greatness, inshallah. It will be all the better for fighting him, but let’s see what happens.”

Hamzah Sheeraz expects to produce an explosive performance against Tyler Denny

In the biggest assignment of his career to date, Sheeraz will go head-to-head with Tyler Denny for the European middleweight championship.

With world title fights with Janibek Alimkhanuly and Erislandy Lara potentially on the horizon, the Brit knows he can’t afford to slip up in his clash at the English National Football Stadium.

He said: “I understand there’s a lot more at stake and a lot more to lose now. But at the same time, as the old saying goes, ‘If it’s not broken, don’t fix it’. My approach is the same; if not, I’ve trained slightly harder.

“Listen, the middleweight division is a great division to be in. Domestically it’s open, on the world scene it’s open. With the WBC, I’m the number one. I’m very blessed.”
