Four-time IBF flyweight champion Sunny Edwards was Rodriguez’s opponent on 16 December 2023 in a fight that proved to be one of the most exciting in recent times.
Both fighters traded blows with each other throughout before Edwards was forced to retire at the end of the ninth round after being dropped for just the third time in his career.
Rodriguez was a convincing winner on the night, landing 62% of his power shots and out-punching his opponent by 238 to 138.

After being ranked as the number one fighter in the flyweight division, the WBO ordered a mandatory fight between Rodriguez and Cristian Gonzalez, who was ranked number two at the time.
Taking place on 8 April 2023, the Texas-born won his homecoming fight by unanimous decision to continue his reign as the youngest active titleist in the sport.

Jesse Rodriguez vs Srisaket Sor Rungvisai
‘Bam’s’ first title superfly weight title defense was against formidable veteran Sor Rungvisai, who was competing for the first time after 16 months out of the sport.
Fighting on 25 June 2022, Rodriguez was dominant in every sense and eventually got the fight stopped in the eighth round via technical knockout following the American’s flurry of punches that left the 35-year-old unable to fight back.
Jesse Rodriguez vs Carlos Cuadras
Having initially been penciled in to fight Fernando Diaz for the WBC USNBC flyweight title on February 5, 2022, it was announced that Rodriguez had signed a promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing.
Cuadras was out of practice after making his return to the ring for the first time in 16 months and it showed as a then 22-year-old ‘Bam’ won by unanimous decision.
