In January 2024, Smith would challenge Beterbiev for his IBF, WBC, and WBO World Light Heavyweight belts as the two fought in Quebec, Canada.

Following a win over John Ryder, Smith would get the chance to challenge Canelo Alvarez for the vacant WBC. World Super Middleweight title in 2020.

Meeting in Saudi Arabia, Smith would take on George Groves in an all-English affair for the WBA World Super Middleweight title.
Groves went into the fight with a 28-3 record, however, he would be bested by the then-undefeated Smith.
The bout was a close affair in the opening six rounds, however, Smith would find the finish in round seven. A check left hook from Smith would stun Groves, before a barrage of punches ended the bout.
