What’s it really like to spar Lucas Browne?… Boxing star claims ‘He’s one of the hardest hitters’

Lucas Browne carries serious power in his punches, according to a boxer who’s sparred hundreds of rounds with ‘Big Daddy’.

In his impressive career, the Australian scaled the boxing mountain, defeating Ruslan Chagaev via KO in an epic comeback to win the WBA Regular heavyweight world title.

With 27 finishes in 31 wins, the boxer proved himself to be one of the heaviest-handed competitors in the division. Jeff Fenech said Browne hit even harder than Mike Tyson.

Now, one of his countrymen has opened up about his experience trading leather with the icon.

Matty Floyd says Lucas Browne is a massive puncher

Matty Floyd has trained alongside some of the best in the business, with ‘The Jedi’ never shying away from exchanging punches with anyone.

Floyd has sparred the legendary Shane Mosley, and recently traveled to the United Kingdom to trade leather with Liam Smith.

He’ll now write the next chapter of his boxing story on July 25, when he faces Armstrong Martins at the O2 Indigo in London, UK.

While his opponent is intent on upsetting the apple cart, Floyd isn’t scared, with the Australian warrior having already taken punches from a former heavyweight King.

In an exclusive interview with Bloody Knockout, the 36-year-old explained: “Lucas is obviously a very close friend of mine, he helped me run my gym for a bit there. We did heaps of rounds together, hundreds and hundreds of rounds together.

“He’s a hard hitter. I don’t think he ever threw it how he fights with ten-ounce gloves, where he’s throwing that big right where he knocks people out. He’s obviously a hard hitter, and he’s a good mate.

“I’ve sparred everyone now, and he’s probably one of the hardest hitters out of the people I’ve sparred. I’m pretty resilient, I’ve got one of those heads.

“I think he also shows up at the fight. He likes to have fun when he spars; he doesn’t like to spar too serious. He’s one of those guys who shows up on fight night.

“There are some people who spar the best in the world, and they don’t show up in the fight. He’s one of those guys who knocks people out in the fight, but plays around a lot when he’s sparring.”

Lucas Browne defeated one of the greatest boxers of all-time in a forgotten fight

While Browne is famed for his victory over Chagaev, the Uzbekistani isn’t the only big name the brawler has on his record.

Years before his world title win, the heavy-handed fighter took on another huge challenge.

In a statement performance, Browne defeated one of the best to ever do it.
