Lamar Russ says Gennadiy Golovkin got the better of Canelo Alvarez
Gennadiy Golovkin shared the ring with Canelo Alvarez on three separate occasions, with the Mexican officially winning two of those contests, with the other ending in a draw.
However, many believe the Kazakh ought to have had his hand raised after the first two bouts.
Regardless, before their famous trilogy, Canelo headed to Big Bear, California, USA, to join the legend for some sparring.
According to middleweight star, Lamar Russ, it was Golovkin who got the better of the action.
In an interview with foxsports.com.au, the athlete explained: “I saw Gennadiy cut the ring off and use his power and his weight to his advantage.
“Gennadiy started landing power shots, hitting him on the shoulders and to the body, and started breaking Canelo down.
“I saw Gennadiy hit him with a hook, and then he would back off of him, like he wasn’t trying to hurt him but wanted to establish respect and his power.
“Golovkin hooked well to the body and the head, and his overhand right is money.”
However, Ring Magazine insiders claimed that Canelo ‘held his own’, leaving what really happened during their rounds a mystery.
Was Gennadiy Golovkin really undefeated before he fought Canelo Alvarez?
Rightly or wrongly, in his second fight with Canelo, Golovkin lost his undefeated record.
Up to that point, the warrior was an impressive 38-0-1, in an almost flawless career.
However, while fans around the globe believe he should have two wins over his nemesis, there’s one fighter boxing enthusiasts think could have a victory against him.
On an extremely frustrating night for the brawler, Golovkin was pushed to his limits by a boxing icon.
