Was Gennadiy Golovkin really undefeated before he fought Canelo Alvarez?… the boxer fans thought beat ‘Triple G’

Gennadiy Golovkin was pushed to his limits and, in the eyes of many, defeated by a fantastic fighter.

While ‘Triple G’ failed to pick up a single decision against Canelo Alvarez in three attempts, officially ending up with two losses and a draw, a large percentage of fans believed he deserved to win two of those contests.

However, on the other side of the coin, there was outrage after he emerged victorious in a bout that arguably went the wrong way.

In a very tough battle, the legend struggled to deal with his opponent’s slick skills.

Some fans thought Daniel Jacobs beat Gennadiy Golovkin

On March 18, 2017, Gennadiy Golovkin went toe-to-toe with Daniel Jacobs at Madison Square Garden in New York, USA.

The two master tacticians spent the first three rounds downloading the data, before the Kazakh sprang into life in the fourth, dropping his adversary with a hard right hand.

Having stopped his previous 23 opponents, it looked like Golovkin was about to extend his incredible knockout run.

However, that wasn’t to be. Refusing to give up, Jacobs bit down on his gumshield and produced a spectacular display.

While the favorite maintained the center ring, the American began to find his rhythm, outboxing the icon for large portions of the bout.

Of course, the Kazakh had dealt with adversity before; Golovkin once knocked out Gabriel Rosado, despite having the flu, but on this occasion, he just couldn’t adapt to his opponent’s style.

As the rounds rolled by, Jacobs grew in confidence, landing snappy jabs and making his foe miss.

When the final bell chimed, the underdog clearly thought he’d done enough to pull off the upset.

Alas, much to the dismay of members of the boxing community who felt the New Yorker had gotten the better of the bout, Golovkin was awarded the decision.

Gennadiy Golovkin was willing to do something drastic to make the Floyd Mayweather fight happen

After the Jacobs bout, Golovkin went to war with Canelo Alvarez.

The rivalry with the Mexican defined the future Hall of Famer’s career.

However, while he was happy to have received the opportunity to fight the Guadalajara boxer, there was someone else he would’ve loved to have shared the ring with.

Interestingly, Golovkin was willing to do something crazy to make a fight with Floyd Mayweather.
