Tyson Fury gave Anthony Joshua career advice before either fighter became world champion

Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will be forever considered some of the greatest names in British boxing.

The two former unified world heavyweight champions have both reached the peak of the sport. However, they have never faced one another in their careers.

Despite Eddie Hearn supposedly booking a stadium for Fury vs Joshua, the fight never came to fruition following the ‘Gypsy King’s’ retirement.

Although they have never fought one another, the two have engaged plenty of times over the years. This even includes a young Fury advising an even younger Joshua.

Tyson Fury gave Anthony Joshua advice in 2013

In 2013, both Fury and Joshua were a part of ‘The Gloves Are Off’ roundtable conducted by Sky Sports.

Joined by fellow heavyweights Lennox Lewis, Frank Bruno, and Scott Welch, a 25-year-old Fury and a 24-year-old Joshua were sat alongside one another.

The year marked when Joshua became a professional following his 2012 Olympic Games triumph. As for Fury, his sole fight of the year was against Steve Cunningham, where his win would make him a 21-0 professional.

However, Fury being inexperienced compared to what he would go on to achieve, was asked to provide words of wisdom to a young Joshua.

Fury’s advice was: “Just listen to yourself. Don’t listen to anyone else, not one person. Because God forbid anything went wrong, you can’t blame other people and be sat pointing the finger. Always know that you’re only to blame yourself because you made that decision.”

“And, whatever you do in life, never regret it. No ifs, buts, should have, would have. Give it everything while you can, when you can, and leave nothing behind.”

Joshua did not respond to Fury at the time, as the discussion ended shortly after the advice was given.

Tyson Fury became world champion in 2015, Anthony Joshua claimed belt one year later

Although neither men were world champions at the time of their discussion in 2013, they would both go on to accomplish their dreams just years later.

Two years later, in 2015, Fury would become champion for the first time. After Fury told Wladimir Klitschko how he would defeat him, the two stepped into the ring and the Englishman kept his word.

Their November 2015 meeting would result in Fury becoming the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO World Heavyweight champion.

As for Joshua, his world title triumph would come just the following year, in April 2016. Defeating Charles Martin by second-round knockout, he claimed the IBF World Heavyweight title after Fury was stripped of the title.

The following year, Joshua would defeat Klitschko, following further in Fury’s footsteps.
