Three potential fights for Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis if he gets past Karen Chukhadzhian

Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis looks to remind boxing fans of his flashy footwork and stunning hand speed when he collides with Karen Chukhadzhian this Saturday.

The American star will make the first defense of his IBF welterweight world title, after securing the full strap with a destructive fifth-round stoppage over David Avanesyan earlier this year.

And despite comprehensively outpointing his next opponent back in 2023, Boots has now been compelled to face IBF mandatory challenger Chukhadzhian in a largely uninspiring rematch.

But regardless, the 27-year-old undoubtedly has a bright future ahead of him and, hopefully, will land the biggest and most lucrative fight available following what should be a routine title defense.

In recent years, Jaron Ennis has been clamoring for a shot at pound-for-pound star Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford, a two-weight undisputed champion now campaigning up at super welterweight.

Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn, too, has teased a potential matchup with Crawford, claiming that, by the time Boots moved up to 154 lbs, the fight would simply be too huge to ignore.

That said, Bud has always maintained that his focus is firmly on super middleweight king Canelo Alvarez, believing that the enormous jump in weight would do wonders for his legacy.

And so, while a clash between the pair is not beyond the realms of possibility, it is perhaps more realistic to assume that Ennis may stay at 147 lbs for a short while longer.

Ennis and Vergil Ortiz Jr have seemingly been on a collision course since they first burst onto the scene as two unbeaten prospects.

But with Ortiz now holding the WBC interim super welterweight title after edging a majority decision against Serhii Bohachuk, the mouthwatering clash has become somewhat less likely.

Yet still, the head coach of Ortiz, Robert Garcia, has suggested that the pair could lock horns next year if Ennis chooses to abandon his undisputed dreams at welterweight.

Among the remaining champions at 147 lbs, WBO titlist Brian Norman Jr could represent the more appealing option for Ennis.

Unlike both Mario Barrios and Eimantas Stanionis, Norman is a relatively unknown entity, despite claiming his trinket with a tenth-round stoppage over Giovani Santillan.

More than that, though, the 23-year-old has already developed a simmering rivalry with Boots after turning down an offer that was presented to him by Hearn.

But now, with Norman beginning to showcase his skills to a wider American audience, the potential unification could make perfect sense.
