‘This is heavyweight boxing’… boxing writers give bold predictions for Fabio Wardley vs Frazer Clarke

Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke will enter a fiercely anticipated rematch this Saturday following their enthralling but brutal encounter back in March.

The pair showed tremendous heart and durability in their first contest, with both unbeaten combatants slugging their way to a controversial draw.

And now, after engaging in 12 thrilling rounds of heavyweight action, the two Brits are set to pick up from where they left off.

Featuring on the undercard of Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol, this matchup has captured the imagination of any boxing fan who cannot resist a good, old-fashioned barnburner.

And so, with plenty of factors to consider, Bloody Knockout brings you two informed predictions.

Most have described Clarke as the more polished, well-schooled boxer heading into this bout. The 33-year-old is, after all, an Olympic bronze medallist and, in large spells of his first encounter with Wardley, proved to be the more technically astute fighter, displaying his finely-tuned skills whenever the pair exchanged blows at long range.

However, this is heavyweight boxing, meaning that certain fighters who perhaps lack the defensive prowess that is needed to compete in lower divisions can, instead, make up for their frailties in other areas.

That much is certainly true in the case of Wardley, who took the unconventional route of white-collar boxing before turning professional.

This means that, against fighters with a decorated amateur background, such as Clarke, Wardley is able to utilize other attributes that are more suited to the pro ranks.

And so, where he, at times, appears to be somewhat unpredictable and awkward, his strength and athleticism always seems to get him out of difficult situations.

Therefore, I am predicting Wardley to win via a late stoppage, retaining his British and Commonwealth titles.

This is about as tough as it gets to call as I’m such a big fan of both heavyweights.

Boxing was made for nights like this and any other time, this is a headline show in its own right.

The way the two have risen up the ranks are very different, but both equally as admirable.

Clarke was the underdog in the last fight and while the draw means that it is a lot closer to call, he’s still second favorite.

Wardley meanwhile has vowed to learn from the errors of the first match-up back in April and his recent decision to join Frank Warren at Queensbury shows he wants to get to the next level.

The Ipswich-born fighter has vowed to end this by knockout and I back him to do so late on anywhere between the ninth and 12th round
