‘That’s when the alarm bells rang’… Andrew Moloney tells crazy story about boxing in Chile

Andrew Moloney has opened up about one of the most memorable nights of his career, with the former WBA super flyweight world champion reflecting on his epic battle with Miguel Gonzalez in Chile.

Throughout his time in boxing, the Australian has traveled around the world, picking up a plethora of massive wins, cementing his place as one of the greatest fighters in the history of his country.

Andrew Moloney went to war in Chile

During his glistening career, Andrew Moloney has put in his fair share of tremendous displays, most recently claiming a stunning third-round knockout against Jakrawut Majungoen on Sunday night inside the Melbourne Pavillion in Australia.

The statement performance proved that ‘The Monster’ is still very much a force at the highest level, with the warrior now determined to pick up another world title.

While the future looks bright, Moloney already has a plethora of epic nights to look back on, with a trip to South America to take on Miguel Gonzalez standing out from the pack.

In a blockbuster bout, the pair put on a show, with the former Commonwealth Games gold medallist doing everything in his power to ensure he got the finish.

In an exclusive interview with Bloody Knockout, Moloney explained: “That was the eliminator for the WBA world title. Gonzalez was 30-1 at the time. They won the purse bid, so we had to go over to Chile and take him on.

“In round two, I threw a punch and I just slipped on the canvas, he didn’t even throw a punch and the referee called it a knockdown. That’s when the alarm bells rang. I’ve got to knock him out.

“The game plan had to change, and I went for the knockout, and thankfully, I got that in round eight. So, that was a huge relief. I remember panicking in that fight. It was a really good moment in my career. It was great to go over to Chile and experience a fight over there.”

In addition to having fought an array of world-level opponents, Moloney has also shared the ring with the best of the best in sparring.

On one occasion, he even had the opportunity to trade leather with Vasiliy Lomachenko.

The former WBA King has now given a full breakdown of what it’s really like to go head-to-head with the Ukrainian legend.
