Terence Crawford crumbled opponent to become two-division champion 10 years before Canelo Alvarez fight

Pound-for-pound great Terence Crawford is set to compete in one of the biggest boxing matches of the 21st century in September 2025.

As Crawford has been confirmed to be fighting Canelo Alvarez, the superstars will clash for the title of undisputed world super middleweight champion.

The two men are already on the list of undisputed champions in the four-belt era. However, a win for Crawford would see him claim the status in a third division.

Winning world titles at different weight classes has not been a problem for ‘Bud’ in the past. In 2015, he became a two-division champion thanks to a great performance.

Terence Crawford stopped Thomas Dulorme in April 2015

After Crawford defended his WBO World Lightweight twice against Yuriorkis Gamboa and Ray Beltran, he set his sights on a new challenge.

Moving up to super lightweight, he would compete for the vacant WBO title. Also challenging for the title was Thomas Dulorme (22-1), who was getting his first opportunity at a world championship.

The fight would take place in Texas in April 2015, with the bout being closely contested before the sixth round. The judges’ scorecards were split after five rounds, with two scoring officials having Crawford ahead by a point, while the other favored Dulorme by one round.

In the sixth round, Crawford would make sure that the judge’s scorecards would not be needed.

A sharp one-two combination from ‘Bud’ would stagger Dulorme, who eventually took a knee after the blow. Moments later, another right hand from Crawford would score a knockdown.

A flurry of punches from Crawford would see Dulorme eventually crumble to the canvas, as the referee waved off the fight.

Terence Crawford became undisputed super lightweight champion in 2017

Defeating Dulorme, Crawford picked up the first of the four belts needed to become undisputed world super lightweight champion.

The following year, in 2016, Crawford defeated Viktor Postol via unanimous decision to claim his WBC title. He would then defend his two belts on his next two outings.

Crawford would get the chance to become unified when he faced Julius Indongo. The fighter from Namibia held the WBA and IBF World Super Lightweight titles.

However, as they met in Nebraska, Indongo suffered the first defeat of his career. Crawford knocked out Indongo in round three to become an undisputed world champion in the weight class.
