Terence Crawford brutally knocked out the man who derailed British superstar’s career

Terence Crawford is busy preparing for the biggest fight of his career as he will face Canelo Alvarez this September.

Terence Crawford will move up two weight divisions to fight for Canelo‘s super-middleweight world titles. A win over the face of boxing will surely grant Crawford the status of number one pound-for-pound king.

In his last fight, Crawford defeated Israil Madrimov to become a four-weight world champion, and in the fight before that became undisputed against Errol Spence Jr.

The Spence fight was a long time coming, and at one point seemed off the cards as Crawford faced an entirely different opponent, one responsible for derailing the career of a British superstar.

Terence Crawford bulldozed David Avanesyan in 2022

Coming off the back of a win over Shawn Porter, Crawford faced 29-3-1 David Avanesyan. Avanesyan’s most recent loss came against ‘Mean Machine’ Egidijus Kavaliauskas, who dropped Crawford in their fight years earlier.

Just one year before the Crawford fight, Avanesyan derailed the promising career of ‘Pretty Boy’ Josh Kelly.

Kelly, a showboater and slick boxer, was rising in the rankings when the pair met and had captured the attention of the British public. The Olympian from Sunderland faced Avanesyan in a bid to claim his European title.

Disaster struck, though, when Avanesyan proved to be Kelly’s Kryptonite, dropping him twice before his corner threw in the towel in the sixth round.

Kelly has since had a few fights, including one on the big stage when he beat Ishmael Davis on the Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois undercard.

Crawford, who lost to Yordenis Ugas as an amateur, knocked Avanesyan out in six rounds, setting up the mega-fight with Spence.

One man beat David Avanesyan quicker than Terence Crawford

Just two fights after his loss to Crawford, Avanesyan stepped up as a late replacement for Cody Crowley, who was set to face Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis in Philadelphia last year.

Avanesyan fell short against the dominant 31-0 champion, and was defeated quicker than he had ever been before, as he was dropped in round five and failed to come out for the sixth.

With this, Ennis one-upped Crawford, who KO’d Amir Khan, by one round.

His record now sits at 31-5-1.
