Skye Nicolson dominated former champion with masterclass in her first world title fight

WBC World Featherweight champion Skye Nicolson is one of the brightest stars in women’s boxing today.

The undefeated Australian made her debut in 2022, winning six fights in seven months to kick off her impressive career.

Fighting for an interim world title in the second year of her career, Nicolson showed she was capable of hanging with the best despite her inexperience.

A 28-year-old Nicolson would defeat Sabrina Maribel Perez to win the WBC Interim World Featherweight title in 2023. However, just seven months later, she would get the chance to become a true world champion.

Skye Nicolson took on Sarah Mahfoud in April 2024

In April 2024, Nicolson would be paired up with Sarah Mahfoud (14-1), as the featherweights met in Las Vegas.

Mahfoud was coming off three straight wins, following her first professional loss to Amanda Serrano in 2022. However, the Australian Nicolson would be able to hand her the second defeat of her career.

Despite Mahfoud being the more experienced fighter, Nicolson would extend her professional career to 10-0 in a fantastic performance.

Controlling the distance of the action, Nicolson’s timing and footwork were some of her greatest weapons, allowing her to evade punches and land her own.

Maintaining discipline throughout the 10 rounds, Mahfoud struggled to land significantly on Nicolson, who could be considered to have won every round of the fight.

Despite it only being her 10th professional fight, Nicolson’s performance was a consistent and experienced one to become world champion.

Skye Nicholson to take on Tiara Brown in Sydney

Looking to make her third defense of her WBC World Featherweight title on March 22nd, Nicolson will take on Tiara Brown, who has an undefeated 18-0 record.

The two will finally face off after Brown called out Nicholson in 2024.

11 of Brown’s wins have come by way of knockout, with her last win coming in January 2025 against Calista Salgado (22-17-4).

In what could be Nicolson’s toughest career test, she will look to build on wins over Dyana Vargas and Raven Chapman in 2024.

The two featherweights will compete in the co-main event of a fight card in Sydney, Australia. The event will be headlined by George Kambosos Jr. (21-3) vs Jake Wyllie (16-1).
