After his first world title victory against George Foreman was shrouded in controversy, with many fans believing he didn’t do enough to claim the win, ‘The Cannon’ was determined to prove the doubters wrong.

However, as soon as the trash-talker set foot in the ring with the Belarusian, he realized he was in a lot of trouble.

But rather than giving up, Briggs, who recently reignited his feud with Wladimir Klitschko, showcased bravery in abundance, biting down on his gumshield to get the job done.

Shannon Briggs knocked Siarhei Liakhovich out of the ring to claim world title

On November 4, 2006, inside the Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, Shannon Briggs and Siarhei Liakhovich went head-to-head for the WBO crown.

While the crowd came out hoping for a big performance from their countryman, it was the away fighter who produced the better work, with the athlete nicknamed ‘White Wolf’, leading on every single card going into the last round.

Refusing to fall short of achieving his dream, with 30 seconds left on the clock, Briggs detonated a thunderous right hand that sent his rival tumbling through the ropes.

Realizing his championship belt was slipping out of his grasp, Liakhovich desperately clawed his way to his feat.

Alas, it wasn’t enough. Smelling blood in the water, the American pounced, landing powerful blows that sent his rival falling out of the ring.

Once again, the warrior exhibited tremendous fighting spirit, as he tried to rise to his feat. However, this time, the referee had seen enough, waving off the contest with just a second to go, and consequently crowning Briggs world champion for a second time.

Liakhovich isn’t the only man who’s felt the brunt of Briggs’ outrageous punching power, with the heavy hitter scoring 53 knockouts in his career.

Throughout his stint in the sport, many a top-level boxer found themselves waking up, wondering what on Earth had happened, after eating the former world champion’s fist.

It’s fair to say the legend loved rendering his rivals unconscious.

However, on one occasion, Briggs was left terrified after a brutal KO, left him fearing for an opponent’s life.
