Shannon Briggs finished his fantastic career with a devastating first round knockout blow

Shannon Briggs annihilated the final opponent of his career with a massive left hook to the body.

With a grand total of 53 knockout wins on his resume, ‘The Cannon’ cemented his status as one of the biggest punchers in boxing history.

In a particularly shocking finish, Briggs thought he’d seriously hurt Dicky Ryan after connecting with a thunderous right hand.

His dynamite power stuck with him until the end of his time in the sport, with the American putting the icing on the cake with one last KO.

Shannon Briggs destroyed Emilio Ezequiel Zarate with a body shot

On May 21, 2016, Shannon Briggs went head-to-head with Emilio Ezequiel Zarate at the O2 Arena in London, UK.

At the time, the New Yorker was chasing a bout with David Haye, and hoped this fight in the co-main event spot on his undercard would earn him the opportunity he craved.

With that in mind, Briggs came out quickly, looking to make a statement. Within seconds, the power puncher had his opponent hurt with a huge left hand upstairs.

After landing a barrage of punches, culminating in a right hand to the body, Zarate crumbled towards the canvas.

The Argentinian beat the count, but found himself completely overwhelmed, with bomb after bomb detonating on his face and body.

Eventually, after a tremendous left hook to the midsection, Zarate went down once more, and this time, he couldn’t get up.

While Briggs didn’t know it at the time, this would be his last contest inside the professional boxing ring.

Shannon Briggs landed huge KO with one second left to win second world title

While his win over Zarate marked the final stoppage of his career, it certainly wasn’t his best.

On his greatest night, Briggs challenged Siarhei Liakhovich for the WBO heavyweight championship of the world.

However, the fight didn’t go as planned, with his opponent seemingly cruising towards victory.

But then, in a moment of madness, Briggs knocked Liakhovich out with just one second to go.
