Retired 60-fight veteran Shane Mosley was once one of the brightest stars in boxing.
The former world champion has names such as Oscar De La Hoya, Canelo Alvarez, Floyd Mayweather, and Manny Pacquiao on his resume. With these being just some of the men ‘Sugar’ has shared the ring with, Mosley was involved in some huge fights.
Mosley ended a 23-year career in 2016. With a professional record of 49-10-1, Mosley earned world titles in three weight divisions.
Although there are many great performances from Mosley, there may not be any quite as dramatic as his 2008 outing.

Shane Mosley had a last-gasp winner in 2008
In November 2007, Mosley had an unsuccessful world title fight against Miguel Cotto, missing out on the WBA World Welterweight title. The following year, Mosley made the move to super welterweight, taking on Ricardo Mayorga in September 2008.
Mayorga was a former world champion in the division, having only dropped his title to record-setting De La Hoya in 2006.
Although Mosley and Mayorga did not compete for a world title, their bout still had great drama.
The bout was scheduled for 12 rounds, with both men having significant success throughout the very close fight. After 11 rounds, the bout was scored 107-102 and 105-104 for Mosley, and 105-104 for Mayorga, which meant either man could emerge the victor.
However, Mosley pulled off a remarkable feat to ensure the judges weren’t needed. With 18 seconds left on the clock, ‘Sugar’ put down his opponent. Following the count, the fight resumed with just five seconds remaining in the round.
In the very last moment of the fight, Mosley would land a stinging left hook on his opponent, the only punch thrown following the restart. Catching Mayorga, he would be put down and out, with the referee immediately waving off the fight.
The official time of the finish is 2:59 of round number 12.
Shane Mosley’s incredible KO set up world title shot
Following his impressive outing against Mayorga, Mosley’s stoppage win was rewarded with a world title opportunity in January 2009.
Taking on Antonio Margarito (37-5), the pair faced off in Los Angeles for the WBA World Welterweight title.
Impressively, Mosley would make it two stoppage wins in a row, however, in slightly less dramatic, and last-gasp fashion.
After an impressive showing across eight rounds, Mosley got the stoppage in round nine, winning via TKO.
