Shane Mosley named the ‘little guy’ who’s power surprised him more than Canelo Alvarez and Floyd Mayweather

Former world champion ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley has one of the finest resumes in boxing history.

With a brace of victories of Oscar De La Hoya, Mosley’s resume also includes names such as Canelo Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao, and Floyd Mayweather.

As well as this, performances such as Mosley’s last gasp winner over Ricardo Mayorga have established ‘Sugar’ as a legend of the game.

Finshing his career with a 49-10-1 record, Mosley was only ever stopped one time in his career. However, despite being stopped by Anthony Mundine in 2013, Mosley described another fighter as a huge power puncher.

Shane Mosley recalls the power of Manny Pacquiao

Despite facing fighters like Alvarez, who once broke someone’s eye socket, and Miguel Cotto who had 33 career knockouts, Mosley was most impressed by another fighter’s power.

Speaking to ESNews in 2015, Mosley was asked about his comments after his 2011 bout with Pacquiao where he spoke about the power of his opponent.

“It was the way he threw the punch and how it felt. It didn’t feel hard, It felt like a snapping punch… When I got up [from the knockdown] I was still feeling the effects of being a little dizzy.”

“It’s interesting. This little guy hits me with a little left hand that I seen, and it hits me, and I go down.”

Mosley went on to say that the feeling of Pacquiao’s power was different from what he had faced before. “I’ve been in the ring with heavyweights, light heavyweights, everybody.”

“Pacquiao has a freaky, different style of power, that I haven’t seen from all my fights.”

Manny Pacquiao knocked down and defeated Shane Mosley

Mosley and Pacquiao met for the first and only time in May 2011. The two competed WBO World Welterweight title, which the ‘Pac-Man’ was aiming to defend.

Mosley’s record at the time of the fight was 46-6-1, while Pacquiao’s was 53-3-2. However, ‘Sugar’ would taste defeat for the seventh time.

A straight left hand from the Philippines fighter would put Mosley down in the third round. However, despite Mosley saying he was dazed, he survived all 12 rounds.

It was just the third time Mosley had hit the canvas in his career.

The judges would score the contest in favor of Pacquiao, who had a landslide victory on points. Mosley would make the move to super welterweight in his next bout. However, a bout against Alvarez would also not go his way, losing via decision.
