Shakur Stevenson’s electrician opponent leaves fans scratching their heads over next fight

Shakur Stevenson defeated Josh Padley, who bravely stepped up after a week of work to replace Stevenson’s original opponent.

Josh Padley, an electrician-turned-boxer who filled in for Floyd Schofield on the biggest stage in boxing to face Shakur Stevenson for a world title in Saudi Arabia will return to the ring on April 19th.

Padley caused the upset when he defeated Mark Chamberlain on the undercard of Daniel Dubois vs Anthony Joshua, and won many fans over in his next fight when he dared to be great and faced Stevenson.

Padley has now quit his job as an electrician and embraced a career as a full-time boxer, with his next fight coming later this month.

“This is what you reward him with?”… Fans react to Josh Padley’s next fight against unbeaten 13-0 Serbian

Padley’s return will come in Sheffield on the undercard of Dalton Smith vs Mathieu Germain. Smith won the European title in his last fight and seeks to step closer to world honors against the 26-2-1 opponent.

The undercard will see Josh Warrington, who lost to Leigh Wood, return after U-turning on his retirement decision. The Leeds man is hoping to set up a fight with Michael Conlan, who is salvaging his career after multiple losses.

Padley’s return comes against an unexpected opponent, as he will face 13-0 Marko Cvetanovic for the WBA International lightweight title.

Fans are surprised by the match-up, with some suggesting Padley deserved a better fight after stepping on to face Stevenson on three day’s notice:

“He upsets Chamberlain & this what you reward him with after taking the Shakur fight on 3 days notice?”

“No April fools is crazy. Get Padley a easier fight lol”

Others, however, are pleased to see Padley get another shot at a belt of some kind, and keen to see him in action:

“Good to see Padley get another shot after taking Shakur on short notice!”
