Shakur Stevenson became a two-division world champion with dominant stoppage win

Shakur Stevenson is one of the top talents in all of boxing today. With an effective style, the champion is still yet to be bested inside the ring.

With a professional record of 23-0, Stevenson has had plenty of incredible performances over his boxing career. Stevenson’s defense has even been described as better than Floyd Mayweather’s, as the champion has been a tough problem to solve for opponents.

In his last outing, Stevenson got the better of Josh Padley, as he earned a TKO victory over the short-notice fighter.

Other notable wins in his career include Oscar Valdez, Robson Conceicao, and Edwin De Los Santos. However, there are likely more huge fights in the future for the American fighter.

In one of his most impressive outings, Stevenson became a world champion in a second weight class with a dominant performance.

Shakur Stevenson dominated Jamel Herring to become a two-division champion

In October 2021, Stevenson would get his first opportunity to become a two-division champion. Having won the WBO World Featherweight title two years prior, Stevenson would take on Jamel Herring (23-2) to win another world title.

Herring was the WBO Super Featherweight champion and was coming off of a win over Carl Frampton six months earlier.

As for Stevenson, he went into the bout as the WBO Interim World Super Featherweight champion, looking to attain the full title. Stevenson was 24 years old on fight night, while champion Herring was 35 years old.

However, despite being the defending champion, Herring would suffer the third defeat of his career.

Stevenson seemingly found it hard to miss the target, as he was catching his opponent constantly through nine rounds. As the fight progressed, the damage added up on Herring, with Stevenson’s lead getting more significant.

The fight would briefly be halted in round 10, as a cut over the eye of Herring needed to be inspected by a doctor. Although the bout would continue, Stevenson would shortly close the fight after the restart.

Catching Herring with more punches, the referee believed the champion had taken too much damage, calling an end to the bout.

The win would make Stevenson the WBO World Super Featherweight champion in his 17th professional win.

Shakur Stevenson would be a three-division world champion in 2023

Two years after becoming a super featherweight champion, Stevenson would once again move up in weight classes to win another title.

Fighting for the vacant WBC World Lightweight title, Stevenson’s win over De Los Santos would make him a three-division champion. The win was the 21st of the American’s career, who won via unanimous decision.

Stevenson would defend his lightweight title two times in the following two years. Wins over Artem Harutyunyan and Padley would extend his record to 23-0.
