Trevor Berbick beat Muhammad Ali and lost to Mike Tyson
On December 11, 1981, Muhammad Ali went to war with Trevor Berbick in what was billed ‘Drama in Bahahma’.
In the early portion of the fight, the former 2x undisputed world champion showed flashes of his brilliant best, putting together excellent combinations.
Alas, he couldn’t keep up the pace, with the Jamaican slowly grinding him down, dominating the contest, en route to winning a unanimous decision, which forced Ali into retirement.
In the aftermath, Berbick continued to pursue his dream of becoming world champion, eventually beating Pinklon Thomas in 1986 to claim the WBC belt.
However, his reign was short-lived, with the brawler running into a terrifying Mike Tyson in his first defense.
In the second round, at just 20-years-old ‘Iron Mike’ absolutely destroyed his rival with a devastating left hook to become the youngest heavyweight world champion boxing has ever seen.
Mike Tyson avenged Muhammad Ali by brutally knocking a boxing legend out cold
While knocking out Berbick was brilliant for Tyson, it wasn’t the sweetest victory of his career, as ‘Kid Dynamite’ wasn’t the only person he beat who’d triumphed over Ali.
Following the second-to-last loss of the icon’s career, he spoke to the future world champion on the phone.
During the call, the Brooklyn scrapper promised to get revenge for his hero.
And several years later, Tyson avenged Ali’s defeat.
