Mike Tyson reveals real reason he uses a wheelchair ‘every now and then’

Mike Tyson may be known as one of the greatest to grace the sport of boxing.

During his career, Tyson was one of the most feared stars in boxing and has created a legacy like no other but as his previous fight showed, his days of terrorizing opponents are in the past.

Tyson revealed he hasn’t fully recovered from the Jake Paul fight last month and in recent years has had to deal with various health complications.

Paul vs Tyson originally had to be rescheduled after ‘Iron Mike’ was forced to withdraw due to a blood clot.

Now 58, one of boxing’s greatest heavyweights of all time occasionally struggles and revealed back in 2022 that he now sometimes uses a wheelchair.

Why does Mike Tyson sometimes use a wheelchair?

Tyson has made no secret of his health issues and back in 2022 revealed he had been diagnosed with sciatica.

As per Cleveland Clinic, sciatica is: “nerve pain from an injury or irritation to your sciatic nerve. In addition to pain, it can involve tingling or numbness in your back or butt that may also radiate down your leg.”

The tingling or numbness can cause a huge problem and ‘Iron Mike’ told Newsmax that as a result, he sometimes has to use a wheelchair.

He said: “I have sciatica every now and then, it flares up. When it flares up, I can’t even talk! Thank God. Thank God it’s the only health problem I have. I’m in splendid health,” he continued. “Everybody in my house is truly blessed and we’re all very grateful for whatever we have.”

Mike Tyson almost died in 2024

In some ways, his sciatica diagnosis in 2022 has given the boxing legend a more positive outlook on life but as recently as 2024, Tyson revealed he almost had a near-death experience.

Speaking after his defeat to Paul in July 2024, ‘Iron Mike’ took to X, where he made the shock revelation that he had ‘eight blood transfusions’ in the build-up to his return to the ring.

He wrote: “I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won.”

Thankfully, Tyson seems to be a lot healthier and that is news everybody likes to hear.
