Mike Tyson picked this fighter as best Mexican boxer ever ahead of Julio Cesar Chavez Sr

Julio Cesar Chavez is an all-time great in boxing, but Mike Tyson thinks he still falls short of another legendary Mexican fighter.

The retired boxer was one of the best boxers in the world during his heyday, being the pound-for-pound top fighter between 1990 and 1993.

In a glistening 25-year career, Julio Cesar Chavez won 107 fights, including an 87-fight win streak and reigns as world champion in three weight divisions.

It took Chavez 90 fights before he was even knocked down for the first time, showing just how dominant he was in his career.

Despite these incredible achievements, Mike Tyson still thinks there’s one Mexican fighter even greater than “El Cesar del Boxeo”.

Mike Tyson named Salvador Sanchez as the greatest Mexican fighter ahead of Julio Cesar Chavez

Ahead of incredible fighters like Canelo Alvarez and Cesar Chavez, Tyson named the late Salvador Sanchez as the best Mexican fighter of all time.

On an episode of Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson, the former World Heavyweight Champion gushed about Sanchez and his incredible ability in the ring.

Tyson said: “Salvador Sánchez was just incredibly hard to beat. That’s what made him so special to anyone who understands his style.

“If you were a halfway decent fighter, maybe you could go the distance. But the better you were, the more he’d take you apart.

“He always fought just above the level of his opponent, and he’d f—you up. He’s just above everybody else. He was a bad m———–.”

Sanchez tragically died at the age of 23, cutting his incredible boxing career short.

Salvador Sanchez had an incredible seven-year career before his death

Despite dying at 23 after just seven years in boxing, Sanchez still managed an incredible career that impressed legends like Tyson greatly.

The Mexican fighter racked up 44 wins in 46 fights in his career, with only one loss and one draw to his name.

The featherweight boxer beat Danny Lopez in 1980 to become the WBC and The Ring Featherweight champions, an incredible feat for a 21-year-old.

Sadly, a car crash ended his life in 1982, cutting short a career that could have gone on to become one of the greatest of all time.

At least he has the recognition of a legend like Tyson for his fantastic boxing ability.
