Mike Tyson named four potential future opponents before his 2020 exhibition with Roy Jones Jr.

Mike Tyson has had a truly unique career quite unlike anyone else’s.

From being one of the greatest heavyweights of all time to Tyson bizarrely biting Evander Holyfield, there have been some memorable moments in the career of the icon.

This also includes a 2020 exhibition fight between Roy Jones Jr. and Tyson, where the two greats stepped in the ring with one another. Due to the fight being an exhibition, no winner was declared.

Despite being 54 years of age when fighting Jones Jr., Tyson seemingly didn’t want to stop competing after the exhibition. Ahead of the fight, Tyson mentioned other potential opponents he would want to face in the future.

Mike Tyson named heavyweight champions as potential future opponents in 2020

Speaking to Fox Sports Australia ahead of his Jones Jr. bout, Tyson named four potential opponents that he would face in exhibition fights in the future.

Tyson said he wanted to help more people by competing in charity exhibition bouts. With this in mind, he wanted to compete with the biggest names to generate more revenue.

In terms of names of potential opponents, Tyson said, “[Evander] Holyfield, Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, Deontay Wilder.”

At the time of the interview, both Fury and Joshua were holders of the heavyweight world titles. With this in mind, Tyson was asked if he wanted to compete for a world title at the age of 54. However, Tyson denied this.

“Hell no. I’m talking about exhibitions. Helping people and stuff. That’s bigger than a title.”

However, Tyson would not face any of the mentioned names. Although, Holyfield would face a former MMA star in an exhibition boxing match in 2021.

Mike Tyson would compete one more time after Roy Jones Jr. fight

Despite seemingly being enthusiastic about fighting following his meeting with Jones Jr., Tyson would not compete again until 2024. Then, when Tyson did return to the ring, it was against the most unlikely of foes.

The former heavyweight champion would take on internet star Jake Paul. The two competed in November of 2024, in one of the biggest-selling combat sports gates in US history.

Tyson was 58 when he stepped in the ring with Paul, who was 27 years old.

The bout would end after eight rounds, as Paul was announced the winner via unanimous decision. It is unclear as to whether or not ‘Iron Mike’ will compete again.

However, Tyson said he was still not recovered after the Paul fight months after stepping in the ring.
