Mike Tyson had a brutal stoppage win in fiery heavyweight showdown at 24 years old

Mike Tyson has been able to deliver some of the most vicious knockouts that heavyweight boxing has ever seen.

With 44 knockouts to his name, fans may have a tough time trying to decide which one is the most savage.

From Tyson scoring knockouts as a teenager, to fighting Jake Paul aged 58, there are few men on the planet like ‘Iron Mike.’

Following Tyson’s shock loss to Buster Douglas, the former heavyweight champion looked to get back on track to the belt. To do this, he had to have a fiery affair with another heavyweight killer.

Mike Tyson stopped Donovan Ruddock in March 1991

On March 18th, 1991, 24-year-old Tyson would meet Donovan Ruddock, 27, for the first time. The fight was billed as a title eliminator, as Tyson knocked out Henry Tillman and Alex Stewart to bounce back from his Douglas defeat.

Ruddock had a 25-1-1 record going into the bout and hadn’t lost a professional fight in six years. However, Tyson would be able to hand ‘Razor’ his second career loss.

Although Ruddock had some success in the fight, catching Tyson with some significant punches, ‘Iron Mike’ mostly led the bout.

The fight was a fiery affair, with both men showing their emotions in the bout, punchers were even exchanged after the bell at one stage. However, it would be Tyson, one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, who got his hand raised at the end of the showdown.

In the seventh round, Tyson would be able to apply enough pressure to his opponent to end the bout. A clean left hook from the former champion would snap Ruddock’s head back, before Tyson continued to throw punches, as the referee eventually stopped the fight.

The stoppage was questioned by the losing fighter, as scenes of chaos occurred in the ring with people swarming in. However, the two would rematch later that year.

Due to Ruddock being dissatisfied with the result, the heavyweights would rematch three months later in Las Vegas.

However, Ruddock would not be able to amend his second career loss.

The fight would go all 12 rounds in their second meeting, with Tyson being declared the winner. The judges’ scorecards would read, 113-109, 114-108, 114-108, as Tyson would earn back-to-back wins over his rival.
