Puerto Rican fighter Miguel Cotto had an entertaining career that spanned 16 years.
The former multi-weight world champion has stepped into the ring with some of the best. This includes Cotto fighting Canelo Alvarez, Floyd Mayweather, and Manny Pacquiao.
Making his debut in 2001, a first-round TKO win would send Cotto on his way to achieving greatness. He was just 20 years old when he stepped into the ring for the first time as a professional.
His final fight would come in 2017. However, it would not be the farewell that Cotto would have been hoping for.

Miguel Cotto’s final fight was a shock loss to Sadam Ali
Following his 2015 loss to Alvarez, Cotto would return to the super welterweight division, dropping from middleweight. Returning in 2017, he would face and defeat Yoshihiro Kamegai for the vacant WBO World Super Welterweight title.
Four months after claiming the vacant title, he would look to defend it against Sadam Ali (25-1).
Ali was a former world title challenger. However, he had not faced anyone with the experience or pedigree of Cotto before. The two competed in New York, with Cotto entering the ring as a huge favorite.
Although Cotto would have some success in the bout, Ali landed more damaging blows and was the more aggressive fighter in their meeting. This would mean after 12 rounds, Cotto would be dethroned in his final career outing.
The judges scored the contest 115-113, 115-113, and 116-112, all in favour of the ‘World Kid’.
The fight was named The Ring Magazine’s ‘Upset of the Year’ for 2017, as Cotto never returned to the ring.
