Boxing is full of wild stories, from ‘The Boston Bonecrusher’ who fought whilst partially blind, to Mike Tyson’s famous ear-biting bout with Holyfield, but none are as unbelievable as that of a Mexican wannabe boxer who fooled no one.
Jorge Kahwagi was the son of a well-known politician in Mexico and had every intention to follow in his father’s footsteps.
However, after reportedly seeing the love Mexico had for Julio Caesar Chavez, who had just retired, Kahwagi decided he wanted to pick up where Chavez left off.
He had 11 bouts to his name before his first televised bout, and though every fight was won by first or second-round knockout, the bout that everyone would witness live cast massive doubt on every fight on his record.

Jorge Kahwagi fails to impress in the ring despite his muscle implants
According to BoxRec, one of Kahwagi’s earlier, untelevised bouts was declared an ’embarrassment’ to the sport, with someone stating: “My 10-year-old kid has a better boxing style.”
This would be confirmed for all to see, when in 2015, ten years after his last fight, Kahwagi faced 13-3 Ramon Olivas, in a terrible performance that fooled absolutely no one.
Kahwagi entered the ring with unnatural, comically large arms and looked as though he had never stepped foot in a ring before.
The fight was stopped after Kahwagi landed a very light punch on Olivas’s jaw, in a fight that left many disappointed and outraged that this man could call himself a boxer.
Even the commentators said: “Kahwagi is a fraud.”
Kahwagi retired from the sport of boxing after this controversial performance. This marks just another story of the strange goings-on in boxing, such as when Tony Galento fought an octopus, or when Craig ‘Gato’ Bodzianowski lost a foot and continued to box, or even the time Shakur Stevenson won a world title from his girlfriend’s older brother.
The boxing fraud who punched Mayweather’s dead and got punished by Deontay Wilder
Charlie Zelenoff is another wannabe in the boxing world and made a name for himself filming ‘light spars’ in his gym which would end up seeing Zelenoff brutally attacking his unsuspecting opponent.
This would escalate, and Zelenoff would begin challenging actual boxers, even once sucker punching Floyd Mayweather Sr when his back was turned on him in the gym.
Ultimately, this culminated in Zelenoff coming face to face with Deontay Wilder, who knocked him out and caused him to flee the gym.
