Manny Pacquiao Jr set to turn pro following in his father’s footsteps

Currently, Manny Jr is splitting his time between training at home and training at the Wild Card Gym under the tutelage of the aforementioned Somodo and legendary trainer, Freddie Roach.

Roach coached Pacquiao to multiple world championships and now is set to try and get Manny Jr’s career going in the same trajectory.

According to World Boxing News, Pacquiao Jr could end up competing on the undercard of his father’s potential comeback fight.

“Manny Jr is just training every day just like my other professional fighters. We are hoping to get him a fight soon but the main thing is improving him at the gym every day. Turning pro in the future is the plan for him and once I see that he is ready,” Somodo told WBN.

“He is doing really well. His work ethic is really good. You see him every day in the gym and never complain. We spar with world-class fighters, and he does well. His future depends on his performance when he turns pro. I believe he will do well but only time will tell,” he continued.

Manny Jr’s amateur career has seen ups and downs

The 23-year-old started off his amateur career with four consecutive wins but then things seemingly went downhill for him from there.

Manny Jr then went on to lose his next four fights in a row making it extremely important for his coaches and managers to push him only when he’s ready.

Originally, Pacquiao didn’t want his eldest son to venture into the boxing world, and he actually tried to discourage him from becoming a boxer. Despite that, the 23-year-old is now well underway in his plan and has even trained with the likes of Canelo Alvarez.
