Lucas Browne defeated one of the greatest boxers of all-time in a forgotten fight years before his world title win

Lucas Browne managed to beat one of the most talented fighters to have ever laced up the gloves.

During his career, ‘Big Daddy’ managed to win the WBA Regular heavyweight world title and compiled an impressive resume.

While British fans remember Browne getting knocked out by a brutal Dave Allen body shot and a ruthless Dillian Whyte left hook, at the peak of his powers, he was a formidable operator, capable of rendering unconscious anybody he landed cleanly on.

During his rise to a title shot, he went head-to-head with a future Hall of Famer.

Lucas Browne defeated James Toney

On April 28, 2013, Lucas Browne fought the legendary James Toney at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Melbourne, Australia.

In his iconic career, ‘Lights Out’ dazzled fans with his astonishing speed and boxing IQ, en route to winning world titles in three weight divisions.

However, by the time he set foot inside the ring with Browne, the American, who was 44 at the time, was far past his best, and it played into the Australian’s hands.

In a tremendous performance, Browne showcased a punishing jab and the intelligence to keep his opponent at bay.

However, in a credit to Toney’s heart, despite being in there with a thunderous puncher, he was able to survive all 12 rounds, before losing a unanimous decision.

Rugby legend destroyed Lucas Browne inside the very first round

On that night against Toney, Browne overcame a fighter who would’ve likely beaten him in his prime.

This very same thing happened to him, when he went toe-to-toe with an icon of rugby league.

Going into the bout, the former heavyweight champion was expected to render his lesser-experienced foe unconscious.

However, in a huge shock, the rugby legend brutally knocked Browne out.
