Liam Smith beat Jessie Vargas at Madison Square Garden

Growing up, every boxer dreams of fighting at Madison Square Garden, with Liam Smith making that a reality against Jessie Vargas on April 30, 2022.

While the Mexican-American got the better of the early action, the Brit eventually managed to utilize his superior size to grind his opponent down, overcoming a cut, to land heavy shots, en route to a tenth-round stoppage.

Reminiscing on that night during an interview with Bloody Knockout, he said: “One of the highlights. I’ve had some highlights in my career: Madison Square Garden, Las Vegas, Texas, Russia, Chris Eubank Jr., Anthony Fowler.

“I’ve had too many to pick from, but that was one of them, and that was right up there in the top three.”

While it’s unclear whether Smith will fight again after his loss to Aaron McKenna, he’s still heavily involved in the boxing scene.

‘Beefy’ played his part in helping Darren Till prepare to beat Luke Rockhold.

Interestingly, Smith explained how Till can defeat Carl Froch.
