Lennox Lewis was knocked out by Oliver McCall in a huge upset

On September 24, 1994, inside Wembley Arena in London, UK, Lennox Lewis went to war with Oliver McCall.

While the American carried dynamite in his hands, the champion wasn’t particularly concerned, with Lewis entering into discussions to fight Michael Moorer and Riddick Bowe before the bout had even taken place.

As the first round commenced, Lewis looked to establish his jab, while McCall threw haymakers that narrowly missed the target.

While the King of the division was connecting with the technically better shots, as the round rolled on, his opponent began to find success, landing with big hooks both upstairs and downstairs.

Regardless, when the bell chimed, most expected Lewis to come out in the second segment and put McCall in his place. But that’s not remotely what happened.

The icon landed a great jab before looking to unleash a right hand, which his rival saw coming from a mile away.

McCall detonated a left hook followed by a straight right to send Lewis spiralling toward the canvas.

Showcasing his fighting heart, the warrior dragged himself to his feet, but deeming him in no fit state to continue, the referee called a halt to the action, crowing the underdog the new WBC heavyweight world champion.
