Kell Brook scored stinging jab knockout two years before becoming world champion

Former world champion Kell Brook retired in 2022 with an impressive 40-3 record, scoring 28 knockouts in the process.

Only losing to the likes of Terence Crawford, who Brook predicted to lose to Canelo Alvarez, Errol Spence Jr., and Gennadiy Golovkin, ‘Special K’ was only beaten by the best.

The former welterweight champion can also boast wins over Shawn Porter, Amir Khan, and Matthew Hatton throughout his 18-year career.

In 2012, Brook was able to extend his winning record with the most unlikely of punches.

Kell Brook knocked out Hector Saldivia with a jab in 2012

In October 2012, Brook was paired up with Hector David Saldivia in what was considered to be a welterweight title eliminator. Set to meet in Sheffield, England, Brook put his then unbeaten record of 28-0 on the line against the Argentine.

As for Saldivia, he had a professional record of 41-2, winning his last eight fights.

Despite Saldivia being the more experienced fighter, Brook had an impressive showing in front of his home crowd. Dropping the Argentine in the opening round of the fight with an uppercut, Brook ended the show two rounds later.

Remarkably, as a stinging jab landed on Saldivia, the fighter was unable to return to his feet as he was sent to the canvas. The referee waved off the bout, as Brook’s record improved to 29-0.

The finish was also the 19th of ‘Special K’s’ career.

Kell Brook received his first world title opportunity in 2014

Two years on from his impressive performance against Saldivia, Brook would get his first opportunity to become a world champion in August 2014.

Now with a 32-0 record, Brook would be paired with then-future Crawford opponent Shawn Porter, the IBF World Welterweight champion. The American Porter had a professional record of 24-0-1, but would taste his first defeat at the hands of Brook.

Winning the bout via majority decision, the Englishman got his hands on his first world title.

Brook would win the belt in California as he went on to defend his crown three times.
