Chavez Jr. is years removed from his prime, and was beaten in 2021 by MMA fighter Anderson Silva, who Paul has already beaten.
Back in his prime, Chavez Jr. was a middleweight champion, and even beat Andy Lee. It was one fight after that, though, that Chavez fought in a brutal war he was unable to come out on top in.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. lost his title to Sergio Martinez
In 2012, Chavez Jr. faced 49-2-2 Sergio Martinez, who sought to snatch his world title from him.
The fight began slow, but quickly ramped up, with multiple back and forth moments from both men.
Martinez dominated some of the middle rounds, with Chavez unable to find an answer for the trouble he posed.
A moment of success came in the final round when Chavez dropped Martinez, who suffered a knee injury, likely as a result.
After the fight, both men were not without their marks, with Martinez requiring stitches over his eye and staples in his head.
Martinez won a clear unanimous decision.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. avenged his father’s final loss
Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. was beaten into retirement when he faced Grover Wiley in his 115th fight.
Chavez’s age, as well as Wiley’s ability, caught up with him, and the legend quit on his stool after five rounds, retiring shortly after.
Just two years later, in 2007, Chavez Jr. got his own back, stopping Wiley in just three rounds.
