Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will return to the ring against Jake Paul in June.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., son of the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez, amassed a record of 53-6-1 before his three year layoff.
He returned in 2024 with a win of Uriah Hall, and is now set to face Jake Paul next. Chavez Jr. lost to Anderson Silva in 2021, and his career has been a hot and cold affair.
Chavez defeated Andy Lee, but was blitzed by Daniel Jacobs and defeated in a shutout loss to Canelo.
One moment of success in Chavez Jr.’s career though was the moment he did what his father couldn’t.

In 2005, in the final fight of Julio Cesar Chavez’s career, the 43-year-old lost a fifth-round stoppage to Grover Wiley. Chavez Sr. knew it was time to retire after losing to Kostya Tszyu, but continued on.
Wiley rose to 30-6-1, whilst Chavez Sr. descended to 107-6-2.
It was only two years later that Wiley would face the consequences of his win over Chavez Sr., who wasn’t knocked down until his 91st fight, as his son, Chavez Jr. lined up to face him in 2007.
The expression like father like son could not be less true with regard to this performance, as Chavez Jr. punished Wiley and stopped him in the third round, avenging his father’s loss in emphatic fashion.
Wiley never won another fight after that.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. lost in the same way, in the same venue, as his father
Chavez Sr.’s loss to Wiley in 2005 came as Chavez retired after the fifth round. This was one of just four stoppage losses of his career.
In 2019, almost 15 years after Chavez Sr. quit in between rounds at the America West Arena in Phoenix, Arizona, his son suffered the same eerie fate.
Chavez Jr. fought Daniel Jacobs in the same venue, in a fight in which Chavez retired after the fifth round.
Same venue. Same round. Same defeat.
