The records broken by Julio Cesar Chavez in his incredible career may never be topped, even decades after his retirement from boxing.
The Mexican boxing legend amassed 107 wins in his 25-year career, holding the world title in three different weight classes.
Julio Cesar Chavez is widely regarded as one of the all-time great Lightweight boxers, and his legacy still lives on, two decades after his retirement.
His world records speak for themselves and solidify Chavez as a legendary fighter.

Julio Cesar Chavez still holds three impressive world records
The career of Chavez is not just defined by his 107 victories or his world title wins in three weight classes, but also by the incredible records he broke during his 25-year career.
The Mexican fighter boasts more consecutive title defenses in boxing history. He didn’t lose a single fight in his first 90 bouts, which included 27 consecutive successive defenses of various world titles he won during this period.
His second record is arguably even more impressive. Of the 115 fights in his legendary career, 37 of them came in title bouts – most of them with him walking in as champion.
Julio Cesar Chavez records | Numbers |
Most consecutive title defenses | 27 |
Most title fights | 37 |
Most victories in title fights | 31 |
These include Chavez’s Superman punch win over Floyd Mayweather’s uncle, as well as his controversial draw against Pernell Whitaker to end his perfect record in the ring.
Chavez lost only six of those bouts, which brings us to his third record. He won 31 title fights, more than any other boxer before or since. The Mexican’s dominance during his 25 years was staggering and has yet to be matched.
He also came perilously close to breaking Joe Louis’s famous knockout record. The ‘Brown Bomber’ managed 23 knockout wins in his title defenses, a record that Chavez was just two off when he hung up his gloves in 2005.
Nobody is even close to breaking Julio Cesar Chavez’s records
It has been 20 years since Chavez retired from boxing, yet nobody has come close to breaking his impressive world records.
His consecutive title defense record is two more than the legendary Joe Louis, and eight more than the “greatest of all time” Muhammad Ali.
Breaking the records of these iconic fighters in such dominant fashion shows just how dangerous Chavez Jr was in the boxing ring.
Only Manny Pacquiao has the chance to match his 31 world title fight victories, although it seems unlikely. Pacquiao will make a surprise comeback to challenge WBC Welterweight champion Mario Barrios on July 19.
He has 26 title fight victories to his name, and at 46 years old, winning another eleven top-level fights seems out of reach, even for an all-time great like PacMan.
It doesn’t look like Chavez’s records will be broken any time soon, and it will take a generational talent to take his boxing crown.
