Jermall Charlo scored brutal one-shot KO to defend world title in 2019

Making his return to the ring after over 18 months, Jermall Charlo will look to extend his winning streak to 34 on May 31st.

Facing Thomas LaManna (39-5-1), Charlo will be fighting for the first time since defeating Jose Benavidez Jr. in 2023.

The former WBC World Middleweight champion currently holds an unbeaten record of 33-0, with 22 of those wins coming by way of knockout.

His last stoppage victory came in 2019, when Charlo competed in New York.

Jermall Charlo knocked out Dennis Hogan in 2019 to defend world title

Defending his WBC World Middleweight title against Brandon Adams in June 2019 after being upgraded to full champion from interim status, Charlo had a 29-0 record.

For his 30th win and second defense of his middleweight title, Charlo would face Irishman Dennis Hogan.

Hogan went into the bout off the back of a majority decision loss to Jaime Munguia, and was looking to improve his record to 29-2-1.

However, things would not go that way for Hogan. The fourth round would see a perfectly timed uppercut from the American land on Hogan, who was sent to the canvas.

Able to recover from the blow, Hogan was able to survive the round despite the knockdown occurring in the opening seconds.

In round seven, Hogan would not be able to survive. A looping left hook from the undefeated fighter would land on the Irishman. Getting waved off by the referee, Hogan would lose the bout via knockout.

Jermall Charlo eyeing Caleb Plant bout following May 31st outing

Should Charlo make it past LaManna on May 31st, he is eyeing a bout with Caleb Plant, who knocked out Trevor McCumby in his last outing.

The two will share the card in Las Vegas, as both fighters are looking for showcase performances.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Charlo was asked for five fighters he would like to face in the future after his next opponent. Charlo’s immediate reply was, “I just want to get the Caleb Plant fight out of the way.”

Charlo described the event on May 31st as a ‘semi-final’ type of event, before adding that he was focused on being the best version of himself possible, as opposed to a future fight with Plant.
