Gervonta Davis scored brutal KO over former Ryan Garcia opponent one year before ‘King Ryan’ meeting

With a 93% knockout rate, there are few men who have been able to survive the stopping power of Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.

Despite being held to a draw by Lamont Roach in March 2025, Davis has been truly impressive over his 12-year career thus far.

Davis has stopped Mario Barrios and Ryan Garcia, among other notable names, as no one has been able to best the 30-0-1 star yet.

In 2022, Davis was able to hand an undefeated fighter his first defeat when the pair met in New York.

Gervonta Davis handed Rolando Romero his first loss in 2022

A 26-0 Davis began the year 2022 as the WBA World Lightweight champion, with one defense against Isaac Cruz.

For his second defense, he would look towards the unbeaten Rolando Romero, who had a 14-0 record. ‘Rolly’ was also the holder of the interim WBA title prior to his meeting with Davis.

The pair would fight on May 28th, 2022, in New York City.

Despite going into the bout with a TKO win over Anthony Yigit, Romero’s winning streak would come to an abrupt end. Despite one judge having the title challenger ahead after five completed rounds, the bout would end in the sixth round.

Romero was able to back Davis up against the ropes in the final minute of the round. However, as he approached the champion, ‘Tank’ landed a crushing left hand.

Although Romero beat the count and returned to his feet, the referee deemed the fighter unfit to continue. The bout was called off, as Davis won his 27th consecutive fight.

Rolando Romero suffered second career loss two years after Gervonta Davis meeting

Despite going almost six years unbeaten as a professional, Romero would suffer another loss in the ring less than two years after being stopped by ‘Tank’.

‘Rolly’ was able to bounce back with a stoppage win over Ismael Barroso in May 2023. However, he could not string together consecutive wins.

Facing Cruz in March 2024, Romero would be stopped for the second time in his career. An eighth-round TKO would see Romero’s record drop to 15-2, as Cruz earned his 26th win.

At the time of writing, Romero is on a two-fight winning streak. A win over Manuel Jaimes in September 2024 would be followed by Romero’s surprising win against Ryan Garcia in May 2025.
