George Kambosos Jr. won his all-Australian comeback fight against Jake Wyllie this weekend, and has set himself up for a world title shot in June.
George ‘Ferocious’ Kambosos Jr. picked up his second win since 2021 on Saturday, when he defeated upcoming Australian contender Jake Wyllie by unanimous decision.
Wyllie gave a good account of himself, taking Kambosos the full twelve-round distance, but was beaten by the more experienced fighter.
Kambosos was beaten for the first and second time by Devin Haney, and most recently was stopped by Vasyl Lomachenko.

George Kambosos on lessons learnt from Lomachenko loss
Kambosos Jr., who became a household name after his win over Teofimo Lopez, faced Lomachenko last year in a fight for the vacant IBF title.
Lomachenko, who made Nicholas Walters quit, won almost every round going into the eleventh, where he stopped Kambosos after dropping him twice.
Though Kambosos, whose win over Maxi Hughes outraged fans, took his third career defeat, he claimed to have learned a lot, and proved just that on Saturday.
In a recent post on X, Kambosos highlights a moment of success he had against Wyllie, and wrote:
“I used the lead up down fake to create the pivot and open up the whole to throw the left uppercut. I wonder where I learnt and picked up that lead fake? Any guesses.”
This is a trademark move for ‘The Matrix’ and his fellow Ukrainian, Oleksandr Usyk, and it seems Kambosos picked up much from Lomachenko, who wants to fight Gervonta Davis next.
Kambosos concluded: “Can’t beat experience you gain from fighting other legends.”
George Kambosos Jr. will fight undefeated champion for a world title next
Following his win over Wyllie, Kambosos said to Eddie Hearn: “You say Hitchins is your best guy? Well let him fight toe-to-toe with me, let’s go.”
Richardson Hitchins became the IBF super lightweight world champion after defeating Liam Paro by split decision in his last fight.
Hitchins, who sent Kambosos a warning ahead of his fight, is a 19-0 professional and is the man who stands in the way of Kambosos becoming a two-division world champion.
Hearn said: “We’re ready to move forward for George Kambosos to fight for the world championship in America, to try to become a two-division world champion.
I think that’s what he deserves for the fights that he’s been in. I think Richardson Hitchins is a fantastic fighter. I think he’s one of the best in the world if not the best, 140. He’s ready to put it on the line.”
