Former world middleweight champion Gennaday Golovkin is considered a modern great of boxing, with his durability being one of his most renowned weapons.
Facing the likes of Canelo Alvarez, Kell Brook, and Daniel Jacobs, ‘GGG’ retired in 2022 with an impressive 42-2 record, winning 37 fights by knockout. He is widely considered one of the greatest middleweight boxers of all time.
His career spread from 2006-2022, seeing him pick up the IBO, WBC, and IBF World Middleweight titles.
As tough as they come, the Kazakh’s ability to take a shot was extremely impressive and led to significant success in his career.

Gennady Golovkin showed his durability against Canelo Alvarez
The only two losses in ‘GGG’s career would come against boxing superstar Alvarez. The pair would meet in both 2018 and 2022 in close contests. However, it was one of the greatest Mexican boxers ever who was the victor of the brace of fights.
Losing a majority decision in their first bout, the closely contested bout would hand Golovkin his first career loss. However, many fighters would have lost the bout via knockout had they been in the shoes of ‘GGG’.
In the ninth round, Alvarez would land a thumping right-hand flush on Golovkin. The Mexican at the time had 36 career knockouts, however, Golovkin would not be his 37th.
Despite the punch landing as cleanly as possible, Golovkin seemed completely unfazed by the effort. Continuing without flinching, a look of disbelief took the face of Alvarez, who still had the fighter from Kazakstan standing in front of him.
Although Golovkin would lose the bout in the end, his ability to take the punch on the chin is one of the most memorable in modern boxing history.
Gennady Golovkin was never knocked down in boxing career
With his two losses coming to Alvarez via decision, this means that Golovkin has never been stopped inside the boxing ring.
Not only this but ‘GGG’ has never been knocked down in any of his 44 professional fights, despite facing the very best of the division.
To make matters more impressive, Golovkin competed in around 350 amateur bouts before becoming a professional. It is believed that even within his amateur career, no fighter was able to drop the Kazakstan boxer.
Known as one of the greatest chins the sport has ever seen, few fighters can compare their durability to Golovkin.
