Gennadiy Golovkin was willing to do something drastic to make the Floyd Mayweather fight happen

Gennadiy Golovkin was more than happy to go the extra mile to try and get Floyd Mayweather to set foot in the ring with him.

At the peak of his powers, the Kazakh was an absolute monster, rendering unconscious almost every fighter that dared agree to face him.

Utilizing his ferocious power, Golovkin finished Curtis Stevens in brutal fashion and, in the eyes of many, defeated Canelo Alvarez on two separate occasions.

However, despite everything he achieved, the legend never got the opportunity to trade punches with ‘Money’.

Gennadiy Golovkin would’ve dropped down in weight to fight Floyd Mayweather

Throughout his career, Gennadiy Golovkin operated at middleweight, winning the WBA, IBF and WBC world titles.

However, he more than happily would’ve dropped the pounds if it meant a showdown against Floyd Mayweather could’ve come to fruition.

In an interview with ESPN, the power puncher said: “I’m not too big. 30 days before my fight, I’m 165lbs. Yesterday, after sparring, I was 164lbs.

“Special for Floyd, of course, I will go to 154lbs, if he wants. This is dream fight.”

Despite Golovkin’s pleas, he never had the chance to exchange leather with the American legend.

And that was perhaps by design from Mayweather’s side.

Despite the fact he emerged victorious in a truly remarkable performance against the Kazakh’s biggest rival, in the lead-up to the bout, the Michigan-born boxer had to overcome real adversity.

After his win, Mayweather opened up about what went wrong before his fight with Canelo.
