Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will make his return to the boxing ring on June 28th when he takes on internet star Jake Paul.
The veteran and the ‘Problem Child’ will face off across 10 rounds as Chavez Jr. returns for the first time since defeating former UFC star Uriah Hall in 2024.
As for Paul, he will look to build on his win over Mike Tyson, whom he defeated via unanimous decision.
However, Chavez Jr., who knocked out Andy Lee, will not be looking to have a repeat of one of his 2019 bouts, where he suffered a retirement loss.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. lost to Daniel Jacobs in 2019 via retirement
After suffering a one-sided loss to Canelo Alvarez in 2017, Chavez Jr. returned to the ring after over two years with an impressive first-round knockout. Defeating Evert Bravo (25-10-1), the win in Mexico improved Chavez Jr.’s record to 50-3-1.
However, the Mexican would not be able to string together back-to-back wins.
In December 2019, Chavez Jr. took on former Alvarez opponent Daniel Jacobs (35-3) in Arizona, competing at light heavyweight.
Despite a promising opening round from the Mexican, things would begin to turn in favor of Jacobs from the second round onwards.
As the fight progressed, Jacobs began to gain control of the fight, proving to be the faster and sharper fighter. Then, after five completed rounds, Chavez Jr. could not continue.
Returning to his corner after five rounds, Chavez Jr. seemingly told his corner that he had broken his hand as well as his nose. The referee then came over and asked Chavez Jr. and his corner if the fight was to be continued.
As Chavez Jr. did not want to continue, the fight was called off, with the Mexican losing via retirement.
The fans in attendance were unhappy with the lackluster ending of the fight as they began to boo and throw items into the ring at the fighters. The commentary team said, “They’re upset that he quit,” in regard to the fans’ dissatisfied response.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has been stopped twice in his professional career
Chavez Jr.’s loss to Jacobs was just the second time he has been stopped in his professional career. It was also the second time that the fighter had lost via retirement.
Taking on Andrzej Fonfara (26-3) in 2015, Chavez Jr. would not emerge for the 10th round of their fight.
After a strong showing from the Polish fighter, he would knock down Chavez Jr. in the ninth round. It would be one of the final moments of the bout, as Fonfara was announced as the winner between rounds.
The defeat was just the second of his career, as Chavez previously lost to Sergio Martinez.
