Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor was one of combat sport’s biggest ever spectacles.
Mayweather vs McGregor generated a mouth-watering sum of money as both men received the biggest paydays of their careers.
The fight would see Mayweather earn a late stoppage over the Irish MMA star, who was a UFC champion when he stepped in the ring for the first time as a professional.
The win was the last professional outing of ‘Money’s’ career, as Mayweather had his first exhibition bout against Tenshin Nasukawa the following year.
However, as well as the main event of the fight being a blockbuster, a budding star was also featured at the Las Vegas event in 2017.

Gervonta Davis fought for a world title on Mayweather vs McGregor undercard
Although the majority of the focus on the August 2017 event in Las Vegas would be on Mayweather vs McGregor, a then-future star would perform on his biggest stage yet.
Current WBA world lightweight champion Gervonta Davis would have his 19th professional fight on the event when he took on Francisco Fonseca.
Davis and Fonseca would compete for the vacant IBF World Super Featherweight title. ‘Tank’ had an undefeated 18-0 record, while his opponent was also undefeated at 19-0-1.
However, it would be 22-year-old Davis who would maintain his undefeated record. After being the better fighter throughout the bout, he would get the stoppage in round eight.
A whipping left hook would put Fonseca down, as the fighter was not able to continue. However, fans were not happy with the stoppage.
Controversy shrouded Gervonta Davis’ victory on Mayweather vs McGregor card
Although Davis was seemingly ahead throughout the majority of the fight, his stoppage over Fonseca did cause some controversy.
The left hook thrown by Davis put Fonseca down, and he was not able to continue as the referee declared the punch a legal knockdown. However, many felt the shot was on the back of the head.
As the replay was shown in the arena, many fans began to boo the stoppage.
Davis said in his post-fight interview that he had caught his opponent with a body shot prior to the stoppage, in defense of his win.
