On February 1, 1997, Floyd Mayweather went head-to-head with Edgar Ayala at Swiss Park Hall in Chula Vista, California, USA.

Having sparkled as an amateur, there were high hopes for the prospect, who’d later become a Boxing Hall of Famer.

And those expectations were met when Mayweather got off to a ferocious start, dropping his rival with a sneaky jab.

In a testament to his fighting spirit, the underdog beat the count, and quickly found himself under enormous pressure as his rival looked to end the show.

After surviving the majority of the second round, Ayala attempted to throw a big punch, which Mayweather could see coming from a mile away.
