Floyd Mayweather had a body shot KO in his professional debut at age 19

Floyd Mayweather was one of the few elite champions to retire undefeated.

Mayweather has names such as Manny Pacquiao, Canelo Alvarez, and Oscar De La Hoya among some of his notable wins.

The former multi-weight champion is considered by many to be one of the greatest fighters of all time, as he retired with a 50-0 professional record in 2017.

‘Money’ has continued to compete in exhibition bouts that have been slated by Eddie Hearn. However, he has not fought professionally since Mayweather’s huge showdown with Conor McGregor.

It all began for Mayweather when he made his debut in 1996 when a 19-year-old fighter started his incredible boxing journey.

Floyd Mayweather had an incredible win in his debut fight

In 1996, a 19-year-old Mayweather would step into the ring for the first time as a professional.

After just shy of 50 amateur bouts, Mayweather would meet Roberto Apodaca in Las Vegas in his debut.

Apodaca was also making his debut in the fight and was 25 when he stepped into the ring to fight Mayweather, whose nickname at the time was ‘Pretty Boy.’

Despite the inexperience, Mayweather looked impressive in the bout, putting his opponent down in the opening round. A body shot would see Apodaca crumble to the canvas with just over a minute remaining in the round.

In the second round, Mayweather would be able to round off an impressive debut. With less than a minute gone in the round, Mayweather would land another stinging shot to the body, with the Mexican fighter unable to continue.

Floyd Mayweather won his first world title at 21 years old

In 1998, an impressive Mayweather would get his first world title opportunity, after just two years and 17 fights.

With a dominant performance, Mayweather was able to defeat Genaro Hernandez via retirement in the eighth round.

Hernandez was the WBC World Super Featherweight champion prior to the bout, however, he dropped his title to ‘Pretty Boy’.

The then-32-year-old had a record of 38-1-1 when he fought Mayweather. His only loss had come to record-setting De La Hoya in 1995.
