Mike Tyson talks about Marvin Hagler on The Joe Rogan Experience

When Tyson was a guest on The Joe Rogan Experience, both he and the podcast host discussed boxing legend Hagler.

Joe Rogan brought Hagler up by describing him as a ‘disciplined’ fighter before adding, “Marvin Hagler made you want to just get out of your house and go running in the snow!”

Tyson then agreed with Rogan, by describing Hagler as a “ferocious animal.”

As Tyson, one of the greatest heavyweights of all time, was speaking about Hagler, he said, “You can’t keep Marvin Hagler off you. If you don’t try and take him out [you’ll lose]. He’s crazy… You can’t box him like that.”

Tyson would then add that he would have loved to have seen a fight between Hagler and Leonard in their primes, feeling ‘Marvelous’ was past his best when they fought in 1987 as he lost via split decision.

Marvin Hagler vs Thomas Hearns will be 40 years old in 2025

On April 15th, 1985, Hagler would take on Hearns for the WBA, WBC, and IBF World Middleweight titles in Las Vegas.

In what is considered to be one of the greatest rounds of all time, the opening three minutes between the middleweights was non-stop action.

The two men almost immediately started at 100%, throwing everything they had into their punches. The slugfest had the crowd electric as both men ate huge punches from one another.

Following the chaos in the first, the fight would end in the third round, with Hagler winning via TKO despite being bloodied in the opening three minutes.

Almost 40 years on, it is still considered to be one of the greatest rounds in boxing history.
