Roberto Duran is a legend of the sport of boxing, a true all-time great, but what would happen if he were matched up with an unbeaten explosive knockout-artist?
Roberto Duran finished his career in 2001 after a loss to Hector Camacho, leaving his record at 103-16.
Just four of Duran’s 16 losses came by stoppage, but on one occasion Duran quit against Leonard, and another Duran was stopped after a shoulder injury. The only man to truly knock Duran out was Thomas Hearns.
But how would he have fared against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis?

“Bambi vs Godzilla”… Fans ridicule viral fantasy match-up between Roberto Duran and Gervonta Davis
In a post on X, Source of Boxing asked fans who would win in a fantasy match-up between the pair.
Though some fans supported Davis with sentiments like: “Duran going to sleep but it’ll be in late rounds” and “Tank by murder.”
Most fans, however, sided with the legendary Duran: “Duran will knock his head clean off his shoulders.”
“Duran would have mauled absolutely everybody at this weight class. Absolute devil.”
One fan pointed at Davis’ recent performance against Lamont Roach Jr.: “Tank got put on his knees by the softest jab ever by a 130er & also loss to him.”
Davis does boast a 90% KO rate, though this likely would not be enough to fend of Duran. Davis, who considers himself the face of boxing, and Roach fought to a draw in Tank’s latest fight, though Roach claims Tank tried to bite him.
Gervonta Davis fans point to the Roberto Duran loss that proves their point
One fan commented on the post: “People should watch Duran vs DeJesus 1, tank definitely would have a chance to beat Duran.”
Duran, who concerned commentators ahead of the Leonard trilogy, was 31-0 before he took his first loss against 30-1 Esteban De Jesus by unanimous decision.
Though Duran avenged the loss twice, some think the weaknesses Duran showed in the first fight are ones Davis would be able to exploit if the match-up were to take place.
Duran addressed the De Jesus fight, stating he shouldn’t have taken it as he was in a car accident not long before the bout.
