Dillian Whyte has lost every fight of his career to this punch

Dillian Whyte seeks to salvage his career after two tune-up wins following his two-year hiatus from the sport.

Dillian Whyte‘s career has seen its share of ups and downs, with the Brit winning the WBC world heavyweight title against Alexander Povetkin in 2021, but losing a devastating knockout to Tyson Fury in 2022.

Whyte was set to fight Anthony Joshua for the second time in 2023, but was replace with Robert Helenius after testing positive for banned substances, prompting Whyte to have no fights in 2023.

Despite the ups and downs, Whyte’s record remains healthy-looking at 31-3, though all three losses have come via the same punch.

Dillian Whyte vs Anthony Joshua

Whyte’s first loss came at the hands of Joshua in their British title grudge match back in 2015. Whyte had beaten Joshua in the amateurs and wanted to do the double on his rival.

Both men were undefeated, with Joshua’s record being 14-0 and Whyte’s 16-0. Whyte and Joshua had an intense face-off ahead of their fight, which began with much animosity after a punch from Joshua landed after the bell, prompting a brawl inside the ring.

The fight made it to the seventh round, where AJ clocked Whyte with a right uppercut after a barrage of punches, sending him collapsing onto the canvas.

Dillian Whyte vs Alexander Povetkin

Whyte’s second loss came against Povetkin as he faced him in Eddie Hearn‘s Matchroom Boxing back garden for the interim heavyweight title, and the chance to become mandatory challenger to Tyson Fury.

Whyte found success early on, dropping Povetkin twice in the fourth round, and seemed largely in control at that point.

However, in the fifth round Povetkin produced Whyte’s Kryptonite, striking him with a left uppercut.

Though he won the rematch, this was the second stoppage loss of Whyte’s career, and the second that was down to an uppercut.

Dillian Whyte vs Tyson Fury

Whyte’s third and final loss came in his 2022 bout with Fury, who dressed as Batman ahead of his fight with Wladimir Klitschko.

Whyte had waited over a year since beating Povetkin and claiming mandatory status to face Fury, but wasn’t able to perform on the night.

‘The Bodysnatcher’ was unable to add Fury to his list of bodies, as he was outboxed by Fury until the sixth round, when ‘The Gypsy King’ sent Whyte down with a thunderous right uppercut.

The uppercut has been Whyte’s downfall for every loss of his career.

Whyte has since bounced back with wins over Jermaine Franklin, Christian Hammer, and Ebenezer Tetth, and was set to face Joe Joyce recently. Whyte withdrew after a finger injury, and is now keen to get back in the mix as soon as possible.

Whyte named Jarrell Miller, Zhilei Zhang, Andy Ruiz, and Deontay Wilder as fights he wants next.
