Deontay Wilder was stopped for the first time by an unknown fighter 13 years before Tyson Fury loss

Deontay ‘The Bronze Bomber’ Wilder is looking to revive his career with a win over Tyrrell Herndon after losing four of his last five fights.

Deontay Wilder has won just one of his last five fights, when he KO’d Robert Helenius. He has since been knocked out by Zhilei Zhang in the most devastating loss of his career.

But his first stoppage loss didn’t come against Zhang, and it didn’t come against Tyson Fury either. Wilder was stopped for the first time in 2008 as an amateur, the only KO loss of his amateur career.

Deontay Wilder was stopped by Evgeny Romanov in Russia

Deontay Wilder began boxing late, and went on to win a bronze medal at the Olympics. He accrued an impressive record of 22-5.

Of those five losses, just one loss came by knockout, back in Russia in 2008.

Wilder fought in a Russia vs USA International event in 2008, where he beat Rakhim Chakhkiev. His next fight would not go as well, as Wilder would suffer his first stoppage loss at the hands of Evgeny Romanov.

Wilder, who was one-upped by Adam Kownacki, was stopped in the third of four rounds against Romanov, whose amateur record is recorded by BoxRec as 16-10.

Deontay Wilder’s next opponent lost brutally to rising prospect

Wilder’s next foe, Tyrrell Herndon, has a record of 24-5, and has not fought in over a year.

Herndon, who Efe Ajagba stopped in one round, has beaten lackluster opposition in his past few fights, edging split decisions against 7-0-1 Rudy Silvas and 8-9 Miree Coleman.

His last loss came against Richard Torrez Jr., a rising heavyweight prospect who beat Guido Vianello in his last fight.
