Deontay Wilder reveals what really happened when he dropped the ESPN mascot… ‘I landed, boom’

Deontay Wilder has opened up about the truth behind landing a ferocious punch on the ESPN mascot.

In his decorated career, ‘The Bronze Bomber’ has solidified his status as one of the heaviest hitters in boxing history.

Wilder still cherishes his knockout win against Dominic Breazeale, and his comeback victories against Luis Ortiz were nothing short of magnificent.

However, one of the most ruthless shots he ever landed came outside of the professional boxing ring.

Deontay Wilder brutally dropped a mascot

While Deontay Wilder is one of the most terrifying competitors on the planet, he’s also a showman.

With that in mind, he stepped up to the plate when the ESPN team asked him to punch their mascot, which resulted in the poor individual inside the costume absorbing the American’s ferocious power before hurtling towards the floor.

In an exclusive interview with Bloody Knockout, Wilder reminisced: “I was at an event and they wanted me to hit this mascot, and I was like, ‘Are you sure’? They were like, ‘Yeah’, I said, ‘Okay’.

“I don’t know how thick a mascot uniform is, but it looked pretty thick when you rub it and touch it. I was like, ‘Okay, this is probably going to be alright’. I was thinking in advance because I’d touched other mascots before, but never hit one.

“So, they said, ‘You’re gonna come, do your little move, and hit the mascot’. I was like, ‘Cool’. I was thinking, ‘This is going to be easy,’ which it was.

“I did the Ali shuffle, everybody is cheering, the mascot was jumping in front of me like we were in the ring.

“All of a sudden, I had a great grip on the right hand, to come and do a good twist with my torso, to come with my right hand and twisted, right time, I landed, boom, here comes this mascot sliding across the room.

“It was a good day, everybody enjoyed themselves, no one got hurt. It was a fun time, that’s for sure.”

Deontay Wilder believes he would’ve knocked out former world champion

In addition to Ortiz, Wilder overcame Bermane Stiverne, Artur Szpilka and Gerald Washington, as well as a plethora of other talented fighters.

However, there’s one opponent he signed to face but never got the opportunity to go toe-to-toe with inside the squared circle.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ claims he never felt better throughout his time in boxing than he did during his preparations for that bout.

During his interview with Bloody Knockout, Wilder says he would’ve knocked this boxing legend out.
