Deontay Wilder one-upped a heavyweight legend with decimation of durable opponent

Deontay Wilder destroyed a man even one heavyweight legend couldn’t finish.

Deontay Wilder‘s career has seen an immense fall from grace lately, as the Alabama ‘Bronze Bomber’ has won just one of his last five fights.

Wilder’s record sits at 43-4-1, and he has claimed all but one of his wins by knockout. Bermane Stiverne broke Wilder’s KO streak, which was 32 fights long at the time.

One man Wilder finished, back in 2011, went the distance with a legend just one fight earlier.

Deontay Wilder obliterated man who went the distance with James Toney

In 2011, 46-14 Damon Reed took on 72-6-3 legend James Toney, who had faced the likes of Hasim Rahman, Evander Holyfield, and John Ruiz.

Reed lost the fight clearly and failed to pick up a single round on any scorecard, but remained on his feet for the entirety of the fight, with Toney unable to stop or even drop him.

In his next fight, Reed faced the unbeaten Wilder, who did what Toney couldn’t, stopping him in just the second round.

Wilder’s power now had a benchmark to be compared against, and it seemed he really would be a force to be reckoned with in the glamour division.

Deontay Wilder’s next opponent has lost to five men, including two title contenders

Wilder is set to face Tyrrell Herndon later this month. Herndon is 24-5, and has lost just once in the past few years.

These are all of Herndon’s losses:

2017 – Shamarian Snider (4-1-1) – KO3 – Herndon 5-0 at the time

2017 – Efe Ajagba (0-0) – KO1 – Herndon 6-1 at the time

2018 – Brandon Glanton (4-0) – DQ3 – Herndon 7-2 at the time

2019 – Corey Barlow (2-4-2) – TKO1 – Herndon 12-3 at the time (Herndon had beaten Barlow before in 2017)

2023 – Richard Torrez Jr. (6-0) – TKO2 – Herndon 21-4 at the time
