David Tua scored scary 19-second KO over future world champion who beat Evander Holyfield

29 years ago, David Tua obliterated the heavyweight who fought in an inconclusive trilogy with Holyfield.

David Tua finalized his career with a record of 52-5-2 and was not stopped even once in his professional career.

Tua was a knockout machine, boasting 43 knockouts out of his 52 wins. There was one knockout, though, that was more impressive than any other.

David Tua demolishes John Ruiz four years before his trilogy with Evander Holyfield

In 1996, David Tua fought John Ruiz, and scored a record-breaking 19-second knockout over the Mexican.

The devastating knockout saw Ruiz slumped on the canvas, unconscious, adding another knockout to the aggressive Tua’s record. Tua was a powerful heavyweight, like Tyson Fury, who knocked down the ceiling when punching a heavy b|ag.

Ruiz went on to face Evander Holyfield four years later, winning on a close unanimous decision. The pair rematched, however, the next year, when Ruiz won a unanimous decision over Holyfield, whose biggest nemesis was Rickey Womack who beat him six times, making the rivalry one apiece.

The finale of the trilogy gave no definitive answers, as the pair fought to a split decision draw the same year.

David Tua shows off his training regime at the age of 52

Years after his retirement in 2013, Tua continues training, sharing a clip to social media just last year.

In the clip, the 52-year-old Samoan heavyweight can be seen practicing uppercuts with heavy dumbbells in each hand.

In a Youtube interview with The Paji Podcast, Tua welcomed a fight with the winner of Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson, a fight which saw Paul, who has teased the Middle East as the venue for his next fight, claim victory over Tyson.
